Strengthening local women producers
Project duration: 3 years (2023–2025)
Country: Bolivia (La Paz Department)
Partner organization: Fundacion RENACE (Red Nacional de Acción Ecológica), Bolivia
In Bolivia, small-scale women farmers make a key contribution to food security as well as to the earnings of rural regions. However, many of them are facing the difficulty of not being able to market their products or of not being competitive.
The project supports local small-scale women farmers in the Alto Beni region; together, they have created the APERAB organization in 2013. This is a unique grassroots women’s organization in a rural environment that helps to bring their products to market jointly on a local, regional and international level. Selling organically produced juices, jams, bakery products, flour and dried fruits has become an important pillar of the local economy and supports the effort of maintaining food security.
RENACE assists APERAB employees and managers with implementing improvements to their administration and looking for optimized production and marketing processes. During workshops, women are trained in standardized transformation and process control in production, as well as in business management and marketing.
The Bolivian NGO Fundacion Red Nacional de Acción Ecológica has dedicated its work to food security and food sovereignty for more than 20 years. Its objective is to promote sustainable farming based on a participative and gender-specific approach.
